The Open Cypher at 6pm welcomes any and all to step into the cypher to rap.

emcees
SFC Emcees are artists who have completed our artist development process and successfully finished Boot Camp. This process develops skill, leadership, discipline, and alignment with our mission.
Becoming an SFC Emcee means stepping into responsibility. SFC Emcees represent Soul Food Cypher in schools, institutions, performances, and public engagements where the organization is formally present.
They lead ciphers, receive paid opportunities to perform and teach, travel nationally and internationally, and receive investment into their own community centered creative work. They embody the mission and help carry it forward.

The Emcee path is highly selective and built around long term development. It takes about a year to complete the full artist development process and Boot Camp. This is not a quick sign up. It is training, discipline, and alignment with the mission.

Boot Camp is annual and tied directly to the SFC Next cycle. Artists must be active members and 18 or older to apply when applications open.

Yes. SFC Emcees remain dues paying members, just like the broader community. The difference is responsibility and representation, and that comes with additional opportunities and perks.
Audience
Soul Food Cypher is a live, community-driven experience rooted in hip-hop culture and creative expression. Whether you’re stepping into the circle or soaking it all in from the sidelines, 100 Off the Top is open to the public and built to be welcoming.
Some guests come ready to rap. Others come to observe, connect, and be inspired. When you arrive, you’ll check in, receive a badge reflecting your participation status, and settle into an evening that moves between open ciphers and member-only segments. Tickets are accessible, the energy is real, and the space is designed for both seasoned emcees and first-timers alike.

Not at all. You can absolutely come and just experience it. 100 Off the Top happens every month and is open to the public. Some people come to rap. Some come to observe. Both are welcome.

Non members can participate in the open ciphers at the beginning and end of the event. Members have access to additional segments throughout the night. When you arrive, you will receive a name badge or lanyard that reflects your status. SFC Emcees are marked by generation, members are marked as members, and non members receive a rapper badge for open cipher participation.

Early bird tickets start at 5 dollars. Standard tickets range from 15 to 20 dollars depending on timing. Members receive event access plus additional benefits like film footage and photos from the event.
VOLUNTEERS
Volunteers are the heartbeat behind Soul Food Cypher. If you want to be part of the energy without stepping into the spotlight, there’s absolutely a place for you. From event setup and registration to food drives, fundraisers, marketing, photography, and year-round programming support, volunteers help make every gathering possible. You can plug in consistently or lend a hand at specific events.

Absolutely. Volunteering is a powerful way to be part of Soul Food Cypher without stepping into the center of the circle. We welcome people who want to support the work behind the scenes.

Volunteers assist with event setup, registration, food drives, fundraisers, promotion, marketing, photography, and other programming support. You can serve year round or just at specific events.

Volunteers must be 18 or older. Youth can volunteer with parent supervision. If you are interested, fill out our volunteer form and our team will follow up with next steps.
DJS & Producers
Cipher DJing is a distinct craft that requires reading energy in real time, understanding hip-hop tradition, and knowing exactly when to shift the momentum. For that reason, DJs are hand selected based on alignment, skill, and community awareness. While DJs do not have to be members, becoming a Soul Food Cypher DJ is a highly selective process. Visiting DJs are welcome to express interest, but placement is never automatic.

DJs are hand selected. Cipher DJing is a specific skill. It requires reading the room, understanding the culture, knowing when to switch energy, and choosing the right beat at the right moment. It is about community awareness as much as technical skill.

We are open to receiving interest, but becoming a Soul Food Cypher DJ is a highly selective process. Visiting DJs can reach out, but placement is not automatic.

No. DJs do not have to be members. We work with both outside DJs and DJs within our community, but selection is based on alignment and fit.
