The Foundations of Soul Food Cypher springs from a love of friendship, community, and craft. Freestyle cyphers are ephemeral by nature but the founders dreamed and put into action a plan to host reoccurring and organized cypher events. Early on, each founder brought their own expertise, experience, and unique flavor to add to the gumbo that is Soul Food Cypher.

Rapping by itself is a technique of rhythmic delivery of poetry. Technically anybody can rap. However, to be an Emcee is to embody Hip-Hop culture and skill. Along these lines, Soul Food Cypher Emcees are not only committed to the culture and craft but also Soul Food Cypher’s mission. These select Emcees represent Soul Food Cypher in communities, on stage, and in classrooms throughout the country. Many are called but few are chosen into this elite group.
