This past December, Soul Food Cypher partnered with the Sweet Auburn Curb Market to bring raw lyricism to the Historical Municipal Market in Old Fourth Ward. The market is affectionately known as a place where the “past and future meet”. When it opened its door’s in 1924, blacks were not permitted to shop inside of the market, but were instead relegated to vend outside along the curb. Transforming that segregated time in the market’s history, it is today affectionately called the Sweet Auburn Curb Market- a name that was adopted in the 1990s. Today the market is a place where both black & white, young & old, congregate to eat and shop. In celebration of this rich history and long journey, Soul Food Cypher sparked a cypher exploring some themes throughout the market’s history.
This special pop-up cypher was made possible by support from Artplace America. Another Special Shout out to Yelp for providing giveaways and helping promote local businesses during the cypher. We thank all of our partners and supporters for producing an unforgettable ride and experience!
