We are honored to announce that Soul Food Cypher is among 38 recipients of ArtPlace America’s 2015 National Grants Program. ArtPlace, one of the nation’s largest philanthropies dedicated to creative placemaking, is investing in historic Old Fourth Ward to further integrate arts and culture into the field of community planning and development. Soul Food Cypher through the use of hip hop and the craft of freestyle lyricism will launch cultural events that create a place for positive social interactions, using the arts and shared neighborhood spaces as a cultural bridge. ArtPlace selected Soul Food Cypher from a pool of nearly 1,300 applicants.
With the rapidly changing demographics of Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward – historically an African American community – new relationships are forming, identities being developed and the resilience of the community is being tested. Soul Food Cypher will spark social interactions, using the arts and shared neighborhood spaces as a cultural bridge with a series of pop-up cypher events in Old Fourth Ward.
We would like to thank all of our partners, members, volunteers, and our beloved city of Atlanta for your support over the past three years. We're looking forward to the amazing experiences we'll share together as the cypher reaches new communities. Thank you.
